An Adult Camper's Heartbreak, Strength and Camp HOPE Experience

It looks like heartbreak.
It looks like anger.
It looks like exhaustion.
It looks like love with nowhere to go.
And this weekend, so many of you were brave enough to let that be seen.
There is something incredibly powerful about sitting in a room full of people who understand that loss doesn’t just break your heart — sometimes it changes your entire identity.
You reminded me that it's not weakness.
It is strength.
It is strength to admit you are struggling.
It is strength to say their name.
It is strength to share the parts of grief that are messy, complicated, and unfinished.
It is strength to keep going when life looks nothing like you thought it would.
Thank you for trusting others with the rawest parts of your pain.
Thank you for proving that even in heartbreak, connection is possible.
So many of us spend our lives trying to hide our grief so we don’t make others uncomfortable.
But this weekend… you chose honesty.
And because of that, you helped create something sacred:
A space where people didn’t have to pretend.
A space where broken hearts could be real.
A space where people carrying unimaginable loss could feel a little less alone.
Your stories matter
You matter.
Thank you for reminding me that healing doesn’t always begin with answers.
Sometimes it begins simply by being seen.
And I hope you know… you helped others more than you probably realize.

To every counselor, and person who made this weekend possible — thank you for holding space for adults whose grief is often invisible.
Thank you for understanding that grief doesn’t end after the funeral.
It doesn’t end when the casseroles stop.
It doesn’t end when people stop asking how you’re doing.
For many of us… that’s when the real nightmare begins.
When the house is quiet.
When the bills still come.
When the bed feels too big.
When you reach for someone who isn’t there.
And somehow… you made this weekend feel safe enough to say that out loud.
You reminded grieving adults that we are not failing because we are struggling.
We are grieving because we loved deeply.
This weekend gave so many of us something we didn’t even realize how badly we needed:
Permission.
Permission to hurt.
Permission to remember.
Permission to not be okay.
Permission to laugh without guilt.
Permission to keep going… even when our hearts are still carrying unimaginable pain.
For those of us who came here feeling broken by loss… thank you for helping us feel a little less alone.
You cannot erase what we’ve lost.
But this weekend… you reminded us that even the most shattered hearts still deserve support, understanding, and hope.
This is our safe place now.
And because of that… I signed up to volunteer.
Because when something helps hold your family together when life has shattered it… you give back.
Because if this place could help us survive this kind of grief…
Then I want to help other families survive theirs too.
And when you are grieving that kind of loss. .. that changes everything…
Hope is no small thing.
Thank you for giving that back to us.
With love,
Bailey
