During the winter, camp activities include cross country skiing or snow shoeing, sledding, ice skating and ice fishing. An arts and crafts area gives campers the chance to draw, paint, make candles, and discover new artistic talents.
Board games and ping pong are available, as well as sports equipment so campers can play football, basketball or volleyball. Storytelling for all ages and drumming are a few of the structured activities in which each camper will participate.
Each staff member has been selected carefully. The men and women are adult volunteers who come from every walk of life and have one thing in common; they care about children and teenagers. Ninety percent of our counselors have suffered a death of a family member or close friend, which has made them sensitive to the feelings of the children and teenagers.
Staff training is conducted prior to the camp to ensure a knowledgeable, cohesive camp. Camp programs and staff training are done under the direction of the Camp HOPE advisory board consisting of professionals in the fields of medicine, psychology and education.
In addition to the counseling staff, each camp has several volunteers who cook and direct programs throughout the weekend.
